Private Instruction

Picture
Private sessions are a highly effective way to learn and refine your practice. Each session is tailored to your unique needs and goals. Postures and transitions are carefully observed to optimize alignment, balance, and safety. The use of props — blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets — allows us to adapt the practice to the current abilities of each student. Hands-on adjustments provide immediate, tactile feedback that verbal cues alone can not offer.

Beyond the physical benefits of a regular yoga practice, a growing body of research shows the profound psychological effects of therapeutic and restorative yoga on mental energy and emotional well-being. A private setting is ideal for learning techniques specific to your unique patterns and beliefs as they relate to the mind, body and overall health and wellness. Each private session can include a combination of these elements, customized to your individual needs.

       Private Sessions
  • Yoga Therapy — Our emotional well-being influences how we think, feel, act, and relate to others. Mindfulness practices such as yoga and meditation can significantly enhance your sense of wellness. The integrative approach of Yoga Therapy uses restorative postures, breathing techniques, meditation, yoga nidra, marma massage, relaxation and muscle balancing techniques to support your whole being. Therapeutic sessions are wonderful for recovery from injury or illness, stress reduction, managing chronic conditions, and reshaping your relationship to anxiety and depression. The techniques that suit the individual in the moment are applied to help open and clear the subtle energy channels, release patterns of holding and tension, and to guide the client into a state of ease and comfort.
  • Breathwork — Breathing is our most fundamental movement pattern, yet it is often misunderstood and dysfunctional. It is the only controllable movement that we are doing thousands of times each day that directly affects sleep, resilience, and overall well-being. (Nestor, 2020) In addition to the many physical and physiological benefits of proper breathing for stability, mobility, posture and overall health; it is the only aspect of our autonomic nervous system that we have conscious control over. Learning effective breathing mechanics is essential for engaging  the autonomic nervous system and eliciting the relaxation response, helping to manage stress, and maintain optimal health.
  • Relax and Restore — Restorative Yoga, also known as "active relaxation", is excellent for regenerating the body after injury, illness, travel, intense exercise, or simply to slow down and counteract the effects of stress and over-doing. This powerful practice of self-care helps to restore equilibrium in the body's physiological processes, and a sense of calm and ease. The body is completely supported by props such as bolsters, blankets, pillows, straps, blocks, and chairs so that postures are held with little or no muscular effort. The body, breath and mind can then surrender, and a natural state of relaxation is established. Gentle hands on adjustments and aromatherapy using 100 % pure essential oils are offered throughout the session. Students leave feeling deeply relaxed and refreshed.
  • Understand the Basics of Yoga -- This type of session equips you with the tools to begin a consistent practice and inspire confidence in larger group classes. We focus on alignment from the ground up, proper diaphragmatic breathing, and the use of props to make postures more accessible. Most importantly you will discover how to move safely within your body, use your breath and awareness to guide you through transitions, and  cultivate interoception — the moment-to-moment experience of each posture.
  • Develop a Home Practice — Supplementing group classes with a home practice is key to reinforcing what you have learned in group classes. Even a few minutes of regular practice at home can make a meaningful difference. In private sessions, you will be guided through postures and sequences with feedback on alignment, technique, length of holds, and modifications to design an effective home practice. Photos and videos may be used to record positions and sequences.
  • Celebrate a Special Occasion — Private sessions can provide a unique and meaningful way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, bachelor or bachelorette party, or any other occasion or special event. Sessions can be customized to include restorative yoga, meditation, and relaxation, creating a memorable and personalized experience for an individual or small group. Sessions can be scheduled at your location or in our tranquil home studio.
