The yogic model of health addresses all aspects of our being; mental, physical, and emotional.
It is about understanding and cultivating a true sense of connection and connected living.
When we are in connection in the present moment, we have a better possibility to relate through that connection in a healthy way to ourselves, our relationships, and to the rest of the world.
The origins of Yoga date back more than 5,000 years. In its original form it was a complete spiritual practice for self-development, often used in combination with Ayurveda and Astrology. As an oral tradition, the practices of Yoga were traditionally taught one-on-one, or in small groups, and tailored to the individual capacities of each student.
"Yoga allows you to rediscover a sense of wholeness in your life, where you do not feel like you are constantly trying to fit broken pieces together."
-B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Life
There is a growing body of research demonstrating the positive effects of yoga therapy as a complementary treatment protocol for a range of psychological concerns, including anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and PTSD. Neuroimaging studies have found that practicing yoga increases the coherence of brain waves, which are associated with cognitive processing and consciousness. Therapeutic Yoga addresses the entire human system- mind, body and energy. Traditional yoga postures, breathing practices, marma therapy (acupressure), relaxation, and muscle balancing techniques are used to address areas of holding and tension. This work is extremely gentle and relaxing. Subtle energy channels are opened and cleared, and patterns of holding are reset.
Yoga Therapy enables the human system to function as efficiently and as naturally as possible. It calms the mind, soothes the nervous system, and develops the language of the body through awareness of sensations.
Private sessions address a range of imbalances, from the physical to the emotional and mental. Patterns of holding in one area can create tension and holding in another area. We start with the physical body, and awareness of sensations. We learn about our own patterns and tendencies. Working with breath and awareness, we can approach the mental and emotional aspects through the language of sensations. Sessions are open to all.
